Unlike rental car companies, Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace where you can book directly from trusted local car owners in the US, Canada, and the UK. Turo does not own any vehicles — Turo hosts share their own personal cars and set their own prices, discounts, vehicle availability, and delivery options.

Demand is simply too high. But there isn't truly a rental shortage in Hawai'i. Peer-to-peer car rental platforms and local rental companies have filled many of the gaps, but the national chain competition has prevented rental car prices from dropping on many travel aggregator sites.

If you do want to sightsee, it will be much easier with a car. One major benefit is you'll be able to do things at your own pace. Oahu isn't big; without stops, you can drive around the island in about two hours. That said, there are things you might want to see and do that aren't accessible by public transportation.
